American History

American history covers history of the United States from the Christopher Columbus' discovery of America in 1492 to the 21st century. The continuity, however, starts with the foundation of the first permanent English settlement on the territory of the United States at Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607. History of the United States before the European colonization is referred to as Pre-Columbian era which deals with history of Native Americans in the United States before 1492.
